Ask questions about your energy
Connect your own AI account and ask about your home’s energy, costs and saved automations. Conversations happen in the connected assistant. This connection does not add a chat window inside MAP or let an assistant control your battery.
This preview is available to authorised staging site members, for both Tesla and Hanchu, through MAP’s existing account and access checks. Individual site allowlisting is no longer required. Production is not enabled.
- Connect your battery and create your web portal credentials in the MAP staging mobile app.
- Open the staging portal, sign in and select your energy site.
- Open Settings → AI Assistants. On iOS and Android, the AI Assistants entry in Account Management opens this portal connection screen.
- You also need a ChatGPT account or workspace that allows custom MCP connections. Availability depends on your account and administrator settings.
Connect ChatGPT
- In MAP’s AI Assistants screen, select Copy server URL.
- On the ChatGPT website, open Plugins, select + → Add custom MCP server. Some account interfaces use Apps or developer-mode settings instead.
- Name it MAP Energy Staging, paste the server URL below and select OAuth. MAP uses dynamic client registration; you do not need to invent a client ID or secret.
- Review ChatGPT’s connection notice, create the plugin and install it. When prompted to connect, sign in on the MAP page with your staging web portal credentials.
- Choose the approved site you want to share and select Allow read-only access. Return to ChatGPT and select the MAP connection in your conversation.
- Try: “Read my current energy readings and tell me how fresh they are.”
Server URL:
https://aptica.uk/map-energy/ai-staging/mcp
Never paste your battery or supplier password into chat. Enter your MAP web credentials only on the MAP sign-in page. See OpenAI’s current custom MCP setup instructions if your ChatGPT interface differs.
What the assistant can read
| Data | Current MAP connection |
|---|---|
| Live energy | Available solar, home, grid, battery and EV readings, state of charge and freshness information. Tesla settings include reserve, mode, export rules, grid charging and Storm Watch where returned. Hanchu includes work mode and force-action status where returned. |
| Tariffs | Available import and export rates, half-hour slots, standing charges and freshness indicators. This is not a complete catalogue of historical tariff plans. |
| Daily energy and costs | One local calendar date per request, including available totals, slots, costs and estimation or missing-data warnings. There is no dedicated month, year or lifetime query. |
| Automation configuration | Saved triggers, actions, schedules, thresholds, blocking conditions and enabled, paused or archived status, plus managed charging settings. Large lists are paginated. |
| Automation history | Recent outcomes, limited to the latest 50 returned runs. A successful command does not prove sustained physical energy flow. |
| Mappy insights | Calculated cards and their evidence, including forecast context where present. This is not a complete hourly solar forecast feed. |
| Diagnostics | Remote battery capacity, health and temperature readings; available solar-string readings; Tesla gateway status and firmware. Tesla diagnostic pairing is required. Fields depend on the system. Raw responses, serial numbers and credentials are excluded. |
| Alerts | Available Powerwall hardware alert episodes with clearance times and pagination, plus the latest 50 site notices. Hanchu hardware-alert history is not available from the current integration; the tool explicitly reports this. |
| Solar forecast | Complete saved forecast points for a requested local date, including provider, retrieval time and available uncertainty bounds. Availability depends on saved forecasts and retention; missing dates are not zero generation. |
| EV charging history | A local day of recorded charging power, detected sessions and estimated energy. Coverage gaps are reported; gaps longer than five minutes are not included in the energy estimate. Charger support and telemetry retention limit availability. |
A full device inventory is not currently exposed. Hardware-alert availability depends on the battery provider and enabled monitoring. Missing data means unknown, not zero. Costs and reconstructed energy can be estimates.
Can it make changes?
No. All ten tools are read only. The assistant cannot change reserve, battery mode, exports, grid charging or Storm Watch; start or stop EV charging; accept a Mappy export; or create, edit or run automations. Use MAP for those actions.
Questions to try
- “Explain yesterday’s import, export and costs, including any missing readings.”
- “Read all pages of my automation configuration and check for conflicting schedules.”
- “What import and export rates are available for my site?”
- “Explain today’s Mappy insights and the evidence behind them.”
- “Read my battery diagnostics and available alerts; tell me what is missing.”
- “Show tomorrow’s complete saved solar forecast and when it was retrieved.”
- “How much recorded EV charging happened yesterday, and are there gaps?”
Connect Claude
- Sign in at claude.ai with the account you use on your phone.
- Open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Name it MAP Energy Staging and use the server URL above.
- Select OAuth and Register automatically if offered. Leave the client ID and secret blank.
- Select Connect, sign in with your staging MAP web credentials, select your site and approve read-only access.
- Return to the Claude phone app. In a conversation, open + → Connectors and enable MAP Energy Staging.
Claude Free allows one custom connector. MAP’s registration and consent tests pass; individual account connection testing is ongoing. Claude Code uses a different sign-in path and is not enabled by this change.
Connect Grok
- Open grok.com/connectors and sign in.
- Select New Connector → Custom.
- Name the connector MAP Energy Staging and paste the staging server URL above.
- Use OAuth authentication. Follow the sign-in prompt, approve your selected staging site in MAP, then return to Grok.
- Ask Grok to read your battery charge and energy flows, including timestamps.
Do not invent a client ID or paste battery credentials into the connector. If Grok requests manual OAuth details instead of registering automatically, report the fields shown so MAP can supply the correct registration. The MAP logo is supplied in MCP metadata and appears on MAP’s approval screen; the assistant decides whether to display it in its own connector list.
Other AI assistants
MAP staging now accepts ChatGPT, Claude and Grok web connector sign-in callbacks. Supporting MCP in general does not yet make another assistant compatible with MAP. Do not use these ChatGPT steps as confirmation that another client will connect.
| Assistant | MAP status |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Current staging connection. Follow the instructions above. |
| Claude web and mobile | Enabled in staging for testing. Configure the web connector first using the steps below. |
| Grok | Backend support enabled in staging; account connection testing is ongoing. |
| Gemini / Muse | Not enabled or verified for MAP yet. |
| Cursor / VS Code / other MCP clients | Not enabled or verified for MAP yet. |
Can I test without paying for another AI subscription?
Checked 13 October 2026. These are the AI providers’ requirements, separate from MAP’s staging access. Claude and ChatGPT have been connected successfully in staging. Grok backend support is ready for account testing. Other clients still need client-specific MAP support.
- Claude: Free includes one custom remote connector. Paid plans also support them. Claude requirements.
- Grok: Its documentation says connectors are available to all users and includes custom MCP connectors. Usage limits and organisation controls still apply. Grok connectors.
- Gemini web/app: Google currently lists US-only access, age 18+, a personal account, English and Keep Activity enabled. It does not list a paid subscription as a prerequisite on this setup page. UK testers should not expect this option yet. Google requirements.
- Gemini CLI: A separate developer tool with MCP support and a free allowance when signing in with an eligible Google account. MAP would need to support its OAuth callback too. Gemini CLI quotas.
Client-specific instructions will be added after MAP supports and tests that client’s sign-in, consent, data access and revocation flow.
Control what you share
Each approval shares one selected staging site. To use another site you have access to, create a separate connection if your assistant supports that. The connection does not automatically include other sites on your account. The original staging workers.dev address remains supported for existing connections. The planned production address is aptica.uk/map-energy/ai/mcp; it is not enabled by this staging change.
Requested data is sent to the AI provider you connect and handled under that account’s data settings and the provider’s terms. MAP does not expose supplier passwords or battery access tokens through these tools.
In Settings → AI Assistants, view connections and recent activity or select Revoke to remove access. Access expires after 30 days, and ends sooner if revoked or your membership of the site is removed. Removing a plugin from ChatGPT alone is not a substitute for revoking it in MAP.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see AI Assistants
Check that you are in staging and have selected the correct site. Your MAP account must have access to the selected staging site.
ChatGPT does not offer a custom MCP connection
Check your account or workspace permissions and OpenAI’s setup guide. A MAP account cannot enable a feature that your ChatGPT workspace does not provide.
Connection expired or access denied
Reconnect through ChatGPT and approve the correct site in MAP. Ensure you use staging web credentials, created from the staging mobile app.
The answer is missing data or looks wrong
Ask for the reading timestamp, source and any warnings. Compare important figures with MAP. Reconnect the battery or supplier in the mobile app if MAP itself shows a connection problem.
The assistant cannot change a setting
This is expected: the staging integration is read only. Make the change in MAP.
