Question 01

Can MAP Energy control Powerwall grid export?

MAP Energy can control supported Tesla Powerwall settings related to energy export where those controls are available for your system.

Whether battery energy can actually be exported depends on the configuration and permissions of your Tesla Energy system. Your installer, Tesla or local grid requirements may restrict battery export.

MAP Energy cannot override an export restriction imposed on the Powerwall system itself.

i
Tesla remains in control of the Powerwall

MAP Energy changes supported Powerwall configuration settings. The Powerwall itself ultimately determines charging, discharging and energy flow based on those settings and Tesla's control logic.

Question 02

Why is my Powerwall charging or discharging when I don't expect it to?

MAP Energy can change supported Powerwall settings, but it does not continuously command the battery to charge or discharge at a particular power level.

Tesla controls the actual behaviour of the Powerwall based on its current configuration, operating mode, backup reserve, grid charging settings, tariff information and other Tesla system logic.

If the behaviour looks unexpected, check:

  • Your current backup reserve.
  • Your Powerwall operating mode.
  • Whether grid charging is enabled.
  • Your Energy Exports setting.
  • Recent MAP Energy automation history.
  • The Tesla app for any system or calibration messages.

Powerwall may also occasionally perform Tesla-managed behaviour such as calibration that is not initiated by MAP Energy.

Question 03

How does Intelligent Octopus Go work with MAP Energy?

MAP Energy can integrate supported Octopus Energy account and tariff information with its energy monitoring and automation features.

For Intelligent Octopus Go users, MAP Energy can use smart charging information to help prevent unwanted Powerwall discharge into your EV and apply your configured Powerwall behaviour around smart charging periods.

Intelligent charging periods are controlled by Octopus and can occur outside the normal overnight off-peak window. MAP Energy responds to the supported smart charging information available for your account.

Smart charging protection

This is particularly useful for preventing an EV charging session from unexpectedly consuming energy you intended to keep stored in your Powerwall.

Question 04

Does MAP Energy support EDF smart charging and Power Perks?

MAP Energy includes support for compatible EDF features, including supported Smart Bolt-On charging events and EDF Power Perks events.

Where the relevant feature is available for your connected account, MAP Energy can expose dedicated automation options allowing your energy system to react automatically.

For example, an EDF Smart Bolt-On charging event can be used to apply configured Powerwall behaviour or trigger a Home Assistant webhook. Eligible registered sites also have a Power Perks icon on portal Live; see Power Perks in the portal.

Question 05

Why didn't my automation run?

Start by checking the automation's history in MAP Energy. This is normally the quickest way to understand what happened.

An automation may not complete because:

  • A configured condition blocked the action.
  • The automation was outside its allowed time window.
  • The required trigger was not detected.
  • Tesla or another connected service returned an error.
  • A required integration was unavailable.
  • The automation had been disabled.

MAP Energy records successful, failed and blocked automation activity where applicable so you can see the outcome.

Question 06

Does the MAP Energy app need to stay open for automations to run?

No.

MAP Energy automations are processed by the MAP Energy service. Once an automation has been configured and enabled, you do not need to leave the mobile app open.

Locking your phone or closing MAP Energy does not stop enabled server-side automations from running.

Question 07

Why can't I use a backup reserve between 81% and 99%?

Tesla currently restricts the backup reserve values that can be submitted through its services.

Values from 0–80% and 100% are supported, while values between 81% and 99% are not.

MAP Energy handles this restriction automatically and will not intentionally submit an unsupported reserve value.

For automations that capture and later restore your reserve, MAP Energy lets you choose whether 80% or 100% should be used if the captured value falls within the unsupported range.

Question 08

Which EV chargers can MAP Energy work with?

MAP Energy supports several ways of detecting EV charging, depending on your equipment and available integrations.

Supported options can include:

  • Tesla Wall Connector.
  • myenergi Zappi.
  • Hypervolt.
  • Ohme.
  • Other supported charging detection methods.

Available integrations can change as MAP Energy develops and as manufacturers make suitable interfaces available.

Question 09

Can MAP Energy trigger Home Assistant?

Yes.

If Home Assistant has been connected to MAP Energy, you can use a Home Assistant Webhook as an automation action.

When the MAP Energy automation runs, a structured event is sent to your Home Assistant webhook containing information such as the event name, automation, trigger, timestamp and message.

You can then use Home Assistant to decide what should happen next — for example, controlling another device, running a scene, sending a notification or starting another Home Assistant automation.

Question 10

Why can't I see Powerwall diagnostic data?

Standard Powerwall information can be retrieved through Tesla's supported cloud services, but advanced diagnostic information may require an additional connection to your Powerwall.

Initial diagnostic pairing may require your phone to be on the same local network as the Powerwall and may require physical confirmation at the Powerwall during the pairing process.

If diagnostic pairing fails, check that:

  • Your phone is connected to the Powerwall's local network.
  • The Powerwall can be discovered from your phone.
  • You followed the in-app pairing instructions.
  • Any requested physical Powerwall confirmation was completed.

See the dedicated Powerwall Diagnostic Data documentation for more information.

Question 11

Why is MAP Energy asking me to reconnect Tesla?

MAP Energy connects to Tesla using authorised access rather than storing your Tesla password.

From time to time Tesla may require an account to authenticate again. This can happen if an authorisation expires, access is revoked, account security changes, or Tesla requires renewed authentication.

When this happens, MAP Energy may ask you to reconnect your Tesla account before Tesla data and controls can continue.

i
MAP Energy does not store your Tesla password

Tesla authentication takes place through Tesla's authorised sign-in process. MAP Energy stores the authorised credentials required to access the services you have connected, not your Tesla account password.

Question 12

Why isn't my Premium subscription showing?

Premium access is linked to purchases and promotional access recognised by MAP Energy.

If you have just subscribed or redeemed promotional access and Premium is not showing immediately:

  • Make sure the purchase completed successfully.
  • Make sure you are using the correct store account.
  • Close and reopen MAP Energy.
  • Use any available restore purchase option if required.

If Premium still does not appear, contact MAP Energy support and we can help investigate.

Question 13

Where can I see what an automation did?

MAP Energy keeps automation history so you can review previous automation runs.

Depending on the automation and result, the history can show whether the action succeeded, failed or was blocked.

If a Powerwall setting did not change as expected, the automation history should normally be the first place you check.

MAP Energy only records a successful action after the relevant action has completed successfully rather than simply because the automation was due to run.

Question 14

Why are some supplier or tariff features unavailable?

MAP Energy supports multiple energy supplier integrations, but the information available varies between suppliers, tariffs and accounts.

Some features require information such as:

  • Current import and export tariffs.
  • Half-hourly electricity prices.
  • Smart charging schedules or events.
  • Meter information.
  • Supplier-specific account capabilities.

If a supplier does not expose the required information, or your account does not have the relevant product enabled, some MAP Energy features may not be available.

Question 15

Can I suggest a feature, supplier or device integration?

Absolutely.

MAP Energy continues to evolve based on feedback from the community. Suggestions for new automations, suppliers, EV chargers, energy devices and improvements to existing features are welcome.

Whether a new integration is possible depends partly on whether the manufacturer or service provides a suitable and reliable way for MAP Energy to communicate with it.

User feedback helps shape MAP Energy

If there is something you would like MAP Energy to do, send the suggestion through the available feedback or support channels.

Question 16

Why will my web login not work?

Use the separate web login saved under Web Portal Access in the app, not your Apple, Google, Tesla or supplier password. After a reset, wait for Web login saved and sign in again. For testers, staging and production use separate credentials: the normal portal is production; a staging URL includes ?environment=staging. See login help.

Question 17

Why can portal History differ from my phone?

The portal retrieves Tesla energy history and uses the rates and confirmed free/smart records available to the service. It cannot read phone-only saved history or manual free-period overrides. Smart slots are retained for 60 days. See History sources and limits.

Question 18

Why is a History cost or standing charge shown as a dash?

A dash means data is unavailable, not zero. Some slots can have a rate while the complete daily cost still lacks pricing for other energy. If only standing charges are missing, Energy balance can still show energy cost minus export value. See missing History data.

Question 19

Can I change automations in the Web Portal?

Yes. Add and edit custom rules, pause/resume supported trigger types, or delete a rule with confirmation. Editing a paused rule leaves it paused. Dedicated smart charging setup and connections remain in the app. See portal automation management.
