Welcome to MAP Energy
MAP Energy brings your home energy information together in one place, with a particular focus on Tesla Powerwall monitoring, control and automation.
Once connected, you can see how energy is moving around your home, review historical usage, connect supported electricity suppliers and EV chargers, view solar information and build automations around your energy system.
You do not need to configure every integration immediately. The best place to start is by creating your MAP Energy account and connecting Tesla Energy.
Connect your Powerwall first and make sure your Live data is working. You can add your supplier, EV charger, diagnostics and automations afterwards.
Your first MAP Energy setup
Follow these steps when setting up MAP Energy for the first time.
Install MAP Energy on your supported iPhone, iPad or Android device and open the app.
Follow the registration process in the app to create your MAP Energy account and sign in.
Start the Tesla connection from MAP Energy and sign in through Tesla's authentication process. Review the requested permissions and authorise MAP Energy to access your supported Tesla Energy information.
Once Tesla is connected, MAP Energy can load the supported energy sites available to your Tesla account. Select the site you want to use with MAP Energy.
Confirm that MAP Energy is showing your Powerwall state of charge and available energy flows such as solar, battery, home, grid and EV charging.
Once the main Tesla connection is working, you can connect supported electricity suppliers, EV chargers and other MAP Energy features relevant to your setup.
Connecting Tesla Energy
Your Tesla connection is at the centre of most MAP Energy Powerwall functionality.
MAP Energy uses Tesla's account authentication process to connect to supported Tesla Energy systems. You will be asked to sign in to Tesla and approve the permissions required for the features you want to use.
After authentication completes, MAP Energy can associate your selected Tesla Energy site with your MAP Energy account.
Tesla authentication can expire or require renewed authorisation. If MAP Energy tells you that your Tesla account needs to be reconnected, follow the connection process again from the app.
Check your Live energy data
Once Tesla Energy is connected, the Live screen is one of the best places to confirm that your system is working correctly with MAP Energy.
Solar
See the current solar generation reported for your connected Tesla Energy site.
Battery
View your Powerwall state of charge and whether the battery is currently charging or discharging.
Home
Understand the power currently being used by your home and where that energy is coming from.
Grid
See when your home is importing electricity from the grid or exporting surplus energy.
EV
Where supported and configured, MAP Energy can include EV charging information alongside your wider home energy data.
State of Charge
Keep track of the energy remaining in your Powerwall and how its state of charge changes throughout the day.
Find your way around MAP Energy
MAP Energy separates your energy information into several main areas.
What's happening now
View current Powerwall state of charge and the live flow of energy between solar, battery, home, grid and supported EV charging.
Tariffs & electricity prices
Connect supported energy suppliers and view available tariff and rate information within MAP Energy.
Solar forecasting
Configure your solar installation and use supported forecasting services to understand expected solar generation.
Understand past energy use
Review historical solar generation, home consumption, grid import and export, battery activity and supported EV charging information.
Configure MAP Energy
Manage your connections, notifications, display preferences, integrations and other MAP Energy settings.
Make your system respond
Premium users can create automations that react to schedules, EV charging, battery levels, electricity prices, solar conditions and supported tariff events.
Review energy history and costs
Use History to compare reported generation, consumption, grid import and export, battery activity and supported EV charging over time. Where tariff and energy data are available, review import costs, export value and net energy cost.
The portal includes available standing charges in Net cost. Where historical charges are unavailable, Energy balance excludes them. Neither figure is the same as a guaranteed saving or your complete supplier bill. Missing readings, tariff changes and billing adjustments can affect the comparison; check your supplier for the definitive bill. See Energy History & Costs for daily detail, usage rings and free/smart overlays.
Connect your electricity supplier
Supplier connections are optional, but they can give MAP Energy additional information about your electricity tariff, prices and supported smart tariff events.
Supported supplier connections include Octopus Energy, EDF and Amber Electric. Octopus and EDF smart tariff features depend on your account: examples include Intelligent Octopus Go, EDF Smart Bolt-On and EDF Power Perks. Amber Electric provides supported tariff and price information; it does not imply the same smart charging events as Octopus or EDF. See Supplier Tariffs & Power Perks for portal rate charts and update times.
If your supplier is supported, open the relevant connection option in MAP Energy and follow the instructions shown in the app.
Supplier capabilities can vary by country, supplier, tariff and account type. MAP Energy will only display features that are supported by the relevant integration.
Connect your EV charger
If you have a supported EV charger, connecting it can give MAP Energy a better understanding of when your vehicle is charging and how EV charging fits into your wider home energy use.
Supported integrations include Tesla Wall Connector, myenergi Zappi, Hypervolt and Ohme, with capabilities varying between integrations.
EV charging events can also be used with MAP Energy automations, for example to change Powerwall behaviour when charging starts or stops.
Configure your solar system
If your home has solar PV, MAP Energy can use information about your installation to provide supported solar forecasting features.
Enter the requested details for your solar installation, such as system size and orientation, as accurately as possible. These values help the forecasting service model the expected output from your panels.
Where separate PV array configuration is available, enter each array's capacity, tilt and orientation individually—for example, east-facing and west-facing panels. Use the forecasting connection offered in your app. Forecasts estimate future generation; Live and History show reported generation. Supported solar forecast thresholds can also trigger automations.
Explore MAP Energy Premium
Once your core system is connected, Premium unlocks the more advanced parts of MAP Energy.
Automations
Automatically respond to schedules, energy conditions, EV charging and supported smart tariff events.
Diagnostic Data
Access supported Powerwall diagnostic information after completing the required diagnostic connection.
Web Portal
View live energy, tariffs, recent history and automation activity in the Premium web portal. Adjust Backup Reserve, Operation Mode and Energy Exports in the portal. Create and edit automations, and pause or resume supported rules. Manage connections and smart charging setup in the mobile app. Read the Web Portal guide.
Energy Manager
Energy Manager is an upcoming Premium feature designed to intelligently plan and optimise your connected energy system.
Create your first automation
Once you are comfortable with the live information shown by MAP Energy, you can start using automations to make your energy system respond automatically.
An automation combines a trigger with one or more actions. You can also use supported conditions and time windows to control when the automation is allowed to run.
For example, an EV charging event could trigger a change to your Powerwall backup reserve, or a supported smart tariff event could trigger a Powerwall action or Home Assistant webhook.
A notification-only automation is a useful way to understand how triggers behave before using an automation that changes your Powerwall settings.
You're ready to explore
Once your Tesla Energy site is connected and Live data is appearing, the main MAP Energy setup is complete.
From there, which features you configure depends on your own energy system. You can add supplier data, connect an EV charger, configure solar forecasting, explore diagnostics or start building automations.
If your Powerwall state of charge and live energy flows are visible, MAP Energy is successfully receiving data for your connected Tesla Energy site.
